This weekend, John Wiemer shared his powerful story of transformation and redemption at the Vineyard Church. His journey from addiction and despair to finding hope and purpose through faith is a testament to the power of love and truth in our lives.
A Journey Through Darkness
John grew up in a small church called Crescentville, where he had early experiences with Jesus and the Holy Spirit. However, as he got older, he found himself drawn to worldly pleasures, which led him down a dark path of alcoholism and drug use. He began to hide from Jesus, feeling guilty and ashamed, believing that God was always angry with him.
The Breaking Point
In 2020, John hit rock bottom. He lost his restaurant, went through a divorce, and struggled with crippling fear and anxiety. After multiple treatment attempts, he faced a botched suicide attempt that left him at the end of his rope. It was then that he decided to seek help one last time, entering treatment on October 5, 2020, and achieving sobriety.
Seeking Freedom
While in recovery, John sought freedom and began exploring different spiritual paths, even dabbling in new age beliefs. Despite his resistance to Jesus, he felt a growing desire for something more. He started praying and having powerful encounters with God, realizing that true freedom could only be found in Jesus.
A Call to Return
Encouraged by his father, John returned to the Vineyard Church. He was hesitant but felt a strong pull to reconnect with his faith. During a service, he experienced a profound moment of surrender, where he decided to give his life completely to Jesus. A man named Rusty prayed for him, and in that moment, John felt the weight of his past lift off his shoulders.
Embracing a New Life
After his rededication, John left his restaurant and band behind, fully committing to his new life in Christ. He began working at a sober living facility and met his wife, Sylvia, who has supported him through his journey. John felt a calling to help others, especially those struggling with addiction.
Ministering to the Broken
John's passion for helping others led him to jail ministry. He started visiting local jails, where he encountered individuals facing their own struggles. Despite his fears, he learned to see people through the eyes of Jesus, understanding that everyone deserves love and redemption.
Transforming Lives
In his ministry, John has seen incredible transformations. He has ministered to hundreds of people, witnessing many give their lives to Jesus. One particularly moving story involved a young woman who had felt like an orphan for years. After hearing John's wife speak, she embraced her identity as a daughter of God, highlighting the profound impact of their ministry.
The Power of Love
John's story is a reminder that no one is beyond redemption. He emphasizes that God loves us where we are, regardless of our past. His journey shows that even in our darkest moments, there is hope and healing through faith. John encourages everyone to embrace their identity in Christ and to share that love with others, no matter their circumstances.
