We talked with Ryan Zoz who serves in the Vineyard's High School ministry and Young Adults as a leader and worship team member.
What do you like best about serving?
I love music; It's brought my family and I so much joy, and I love to worship. Some people can really feel God in prayer or in the Word. I do too, but there's something about music and worshiping that allows me personally to have that intimate conversation with God. Serving in the music ministry at church has been a generational role that my family has filled long before I was born.
Do you have a story about how you got started in this serving role?
I started playing drums in church when I was about 8 or 9 with my Dad and sister. But my serving at Vineyard is all Chris Stehm's fault! Two years ago he found out that I played the drums and continually pushed me to play, but I never thought I was good enough because I hadn't played in many years. Then one day he called and said he was desperate and with much coercing, convinced me to play again. What he didn't tell me was that, my first Sunday playing in two years, he wasn't even going to be there, but that's how I came to serve at VCC. My closest friends have come through serving at the Vineyard.
How has serving others impacted your life?
One of my greatest joys is to watch and experience worship with those around me. And I always get an overwhelming sense of excitement when people experience the music we play in church the same way I do. One way this impacts me is when I am up on stage playing; I get this image of God using the abilities He gave me to further His kingdom. We're called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, and that's something I constantly pray for and it's amazing every time I go up there to play, because He answers it.
