VK Mom: Allison Renner

Emily Francis-Foster | May 8, 2017

This week, we are celebrating Moms! We're thankful for every Mom who works or serves in Vineyard Kids. We interviewed just a few of these moms to get to know them better.

Get to know Allison.

Allison is married to Drew. They have two children, Aiden (2.5 yrs), and Alder (3 months), and have attended Vineyard Cincinnati Church for 3.5 years. Allison currently works on our Vineyard Kids staff as the BridgeBuilders Coordinator, which serves children with special needs.

What are your favorite hobbies?

I love reading, family hikes and taking pictures (mostly of my kids)!

What do you love about being a mom?

I love so many things about being a mom, but my favorite thing is getting to experience the wonder of the world again through my children’s eyes. Bubbles are mini rainbows, puddles are swimming pools, a neon caterpillar is the coolest thing ever and holidays are magical again.

What do you love about serving in Vineyard Kids?

I love the amazing people and families that I have the privilege of interacting with each week. I am always blown away by the desire of others to serve and love on one another. It is a wonderful community of people!

What do you do as a family to pray or study the Bible together?

Practicing gratitude is big with us. We make sure each night to list the things from that specific day that we are thankful for and we say “Thank you God for _____.” Being thankful for the many gifts, big and small, is something we want both our children to practice at a young age.

What kind of prayer do you pray the most often for your children?

Since I am a Mom of two little ones, the prayer I most often find myself praying is for them to sleep in peace. (Psalm 4:8) I want their dreams to be sweet and I want their sleep to help restore and refresh their minds and bodies. I pray that they feel and know God’s deep and everlasting love for them. (Jeremiah 31:3)

If you could share with a new mom one piece of advice, what would that be?

No matter how hard you try, you will not parent perfectly and that is okay. You might have a pile of dirty dishes in the sink, laundry left overnight and have ordered pizza for dinner, but your child went to bed feeling loved, so good job Mama. Do the best you can and allow God’s grace to wash over you each day.
