Dancing into Marriage: How One Couple Found Clarity Before Saying "Yes"

For Amber and Austin, the journey to marriage didn’t begin with a ring—it began with intention.

“We went to the premarital class before we were engaged (after about 8 months of dating). Our hope in attending the class was to discern if engagement and marriage would be a good step for us.”

They believed that building a healthy relationship meant laying a strong foundation early. So instead of waiting until they were planning a wedding, they took a proactive step together.

“We believed that a good marriage needed a strong foundation, so we took the classes seriously.”

The Vineyard Premarital Class turned out to be exactly what they needed. With accessible tools and intentional content, it helped them connect on a deeper level.

“The conversation guides and videos were easy to follow and helped us open up and be vulnerable with the other.”

One moment stood out above the rest.

“It was because of this class, specifically the section on communication, Amber saw that Austin would make a good husband (Austin knew Amber would be a good wife way before this class 😆).”

And the sweetest memory?

“Our favorite part of the class—the dance lesson during our last session. That was the first time we danced together and it was so sweet.”

But the impact of the class didn’t stop there. What they learned continued to shape their relationship as they stepped into marriage.

“In our early marriage, we used what we learned about how to communicate in healthy ways even in tension, staying on the same side rather than turning conflict into a me vs. you. Instead we remind ourselves and the other that it’s us, together, against ‘the problem.’”

Their advice for other couples?

“We highly suggest this class for couples who are newly engaged or are in a serious relationship discerning engagement and marriage.”

Amber and Austin’s story is a beautiful reminder that the best relationships are built with purpose—and a little bit of dancing.
