Michelle Coburn started serving here at the Vineyard by cleaning toilets with Outreach back in the mid-90's. She has continued taking the next steps in her faith journey and now serves in the Vineyard Kids Craft and Resource Room.
Can you describe your serving role?
I’ve been serving on the Welcome Team in Vineyard Kids and Momentum 56. I just moved to the Craft and Resource Room as a Team Leader where I organize crafts materials, create craft bags for the students and help out at large events.
What do you like best about serving in this way?
I love getting to know other Vineyard families and getting to serve the next generation. When serving in the Craft and Resource Room, I love getting to know others who I serve with. It’s kind of my adult time.
Tell us about how you got started in this serving role?
Well, I started serving back in the mid 90’s technically, you know, the toilet cleaning days. We got some of the best looks walking into gas stations and asking, “Can we clean the toilet for you?” It was fun to watch their heads tilt to the side in confusion. But with the Kids ministry, it was important to me to show my daughter what a servant’s heart meant and to model it to her. She now helps teach fifth graders in Momentum 56 and loves it.
How has serving connected you with the community at the Vineyard?
I feel connected by being able to help someone, whether it’s a staff member or a complete stranger.
How has serving others impacted your life?
I think serving others has impacted who I am as a person. It is something I know I can't mess up doing. It is a great feeling to be able to help someone. Small things done with great love will change our city one person at a time.
